About Us
On the East "wet" side of the island of O'ahu, behind the cuts and crevices of the tall Ko'olau Mountains, and underneath the morning chilly fog you'll find our nursery quietly nestled in the small town of Waimanalo. We are inland 'mauka' (toward the mountain) from the main street- Kalanianaole Highway. Our address is 41-679 Mokulama Street.

Upon your arrival to the islands please feel free to stop by and visit us. We are certified to ship anywhere in the United States. We do ask that you call first before coming as we would like to make sure someone is here at the nursery to assist you. We go to many orchids shows on the mainland and in Hawaii throughout the year. We do deliveries to stores, business, and private homes throughout the week. Usually someone is here to assist you between 8am-3pm Monday thru Saturday-but just in case give us a call so we can comb our hair, spray some breath mints, and clean up our mess.

There are 2 ways to get to us. Depending on your preference and alloted time. There is the scenic route around the island (approximately a 30-40 minute drive). From Waikiki you'll pass by Koko Head Crater, Kahala Mall, Hawaii Kai beach/harbor, Hanuama Bay, The Blow Hole, the infamous Sandy Beach (HUGE GIGANTIC waves, for all you dare devil surf goers), Sea Life Park, and Waimanalo beach, before arriving at our nursery. For others that can't spare the time for the drive and checking out the scenes- you can drive through the island (approximately a 25 minute drive), catching the H1 to Kaneohe, passing through the Pali (cliff) and turning right onto Kalanianaole Highway. We do suggest that if you do decide to take this route stop at the top of the Pali lookout-it's a beautiful site to see the East side of the island. If we may give you our personal preference? Might we suggest you to take the trip to our nursery around the island- there are many sites to see (including whales in the ocean), it's a peaceful drive without all the hussle and bussle, and sometimes on a clear day you can see the islands of Maui and Moloka'i with the naked eye!! Besides our beautifully grown orchids the scenic beauty of the island is what makes O'ahu so desirable-something you just can't pass up.

Here in Hawaii we have the tropical climate that allows us to grow beautifully aclaimed orchids. In the begining Martin O'Day started off as an orchid hobbist-growing his orchids behind the house. Martin has tried his hand in many adventures in life-one of them being in the United States Navy. After retiring he started a few jobs here and there until he found his passion and his love and interest in orchids. Martin then began to take a bigger interest in his orchids and expanded-upon his expansion, he needed a bigger place to grow his orchids-if you too are an orchid lover, you'll know you just can't stop at one (orchid that is). Something that started over 15 years ago in the back yard of his house has expanded into a self made self built nursery residing on 1 1/2 acres of land which is currently expanding into a 2 1/2 acre nursery. The expansion of a hobbyist to a commerical grower has made Hawaiian Orchid Source a family owned business. Martin's son Patrick O'Day began taking an interest in growing orchids 7 years ago, which today that interest has defineitly turned into a love and passion for growing orchids along side his father.

This picture are the Ko'olau mountains, and our work area. The rest of the pictures are of our orchids. At one time we use to grow a lot of dendrobiums. Dendrobiums are currently a 1/4 of nursery. We do have some Phalenopsis, Oncidiums, Paphiopedilums, and Vandas which is about 1/4 of our nursery. Our true specialty is cattleyas and some species, which occupies the other 1/2 of our nursery. We have species, seedling and mericlone cattleyas in 2", Near blooming size, and Blooming size. Our cattleyas are our pride and joy. It often gets exciting around here, waiting for blooms to pop open and trying to figure out which cattleya is giving off that sweet smelling fragrance that is illuminating the whole nursery. We do do some of our own hybridizing, cloning, and flasking. We have a lab located off the premisis, where we can do our labatory work in a clean sterile environment. A good majority of our plants are personally grown from flasks and compots.
